People with a refugee background contribute to our society. With the right support
Those who leave behind war and forced displacement bring resilience, skills and stories with them. What often stands in the way isn’t a lack of willpower, but a care system that doesn’t speak their language or know their background. Solentra builds specialised, accessible mental health care – tuned to culture and language – so that resilience can find room again.
In 2025, 1,508 people from 81 countries found their way back to solid ground with us, across 6,360 sessions. One in four is a child – and early support makes the difference for school, development and family life.
Structural challenges call for structural solutions. That’s why we strengthen not only clients, but the professionals and organisations around them: in 2025 we shared our approach across 96 trainings, peer-supervision and supervision sessions.
Every euro invested in mental health care returns fourfold to society in health and productivity (WHO/The Lancet Psychiatry, 2016). Your gift isn’t a cost – it’s an investment.
“We often think: people with a refugee background are in Belgium, so the worst is over. But the real processing only begins afterwards. That is precisely why mental health support is so crucial. And that important work of Solentra is something I am glad to support.” – donor

What does Solentra do with your support?
- Interpreters open the door to care. They don’t just translate words – they help give voice to the unspeakable and provide context for customs and ways of thinking, so a conversation becomes a real conversation.
- Our helpdesk is there for GPs, teachers and care workers who work with people with a refugee background every day. This way, your support reaches far more people than we could ever see ourselves.
- Research and training make sure that what works spreads – well beyond our own walls.
- “As a GP, I have already been able to rely several times on the valuable support of the helpdesk. That is why I want to support this work with strong conviction.” – donor
Our audited accounts are published publicly on donorinfo.
